Katy Schmaty's wares

Grenades for girls
Nicollet Avenue just got girlier. Jewelry designer Katy Vereide has opened her first storefront, Katy Schmaty, in South Minneapolis. With designs ranging from elegant (dangly quartz cluster earrings) to comical (grenade necklaces), it’s hard not to find something for everyone. The price tags—$10–$60—certainly don’t hurt.

What did mom say? Keep your hands out of her jewelry box.

What did you do? Reach straight for the pearls. And for all the cred they brought you at show-and-tell, it wasn't really worth the month without TV.
You still can't have mom's heirloom opal earrings (without consequences), but you can show off something just as impressive: Katy Schmaty jewelry.
In her new studio/boutique space, designer Katy Vereide repurposes vintage and kitsch items into new contemporary pieces.
She also carries an extensive collection of vintage Enid Collins painted wood handbags and works by her friends, including T-shirts by Dani Fenn and Lindsay's Glassware.
For jewelry, pick from rings, necklaces and earrings, or buy a few -- they're all $100 or less.
An easy price to pay, after what you're used to.
Katy Schmaty, 3920 Nicollet Av S. Mpls, 612-823-8200. Open Monday through Friday from noon to 7 p. m. and weekends by appointment.

Pssst! Joe Sent Me!
We always want what we can’t have, whether it’s joining a party behind the velvet rope or that dress marked “hold” behind the sales counter. Now we’ve found a shop that makes us feel we’ve just stumbled into our own private speakeasy, with earrings where teacups of gin would be.
To enter Katy Schmaty Jewelry, park at the body shop, look for the pink signs, and twist your way around the hallways. No need to knock three times—just enter and start admiring the funky baubles. Launched by a legislative-assistant-turned-designer, who began when she couldn’t find the right necklaces for bridesmaid’s gifts, this boutique packs plenty of punch into a tiny space. Check out the “beer-ings” for that “co-ed on spring break” vibe, or snap up some owl designs—this season’s “it” animal.
Incorporating quirky pieces from vintagewear, beautifully colored accents, and lustrous gems, the designs offer a fresh new take on traditional looks, while the location itself offers a twist on the usual ho-hum strip mall. Don’t miss the Grand Opening May 7 and 8 for special deals and treats!

Katy Schmaty necklace
I love the internets.  You can learn so much.  Cool things (dee & ricky!), gross things (2 girls one cup), embarrassing things (how to remove x from xxx).  And crafty things, like this duck l’orange necklace by Katy Schmaty, who according to my extensive research is female.  I like your style, katyschmaty, thanks for the heads up.
